This Is What I Say - Parody

Parody of the poem "This Is Just To Say" by William Carlos Williams.

This Is What I Say

You have eaten
the plums
Will that steal
your soul?

I'll just go
to the store
and buy myself some
Your sarcastic

apology
won't make me budge
next time I buy plums

I'll eat them before

  1. Just so you know the last line is part of the third stanza. I don't know how to edit it.

  2. As Cindy said above, the last line should be a part of the third stanza if you are taking Williams' structure for his poem. You used a question mark, which is different than Williams not using any punctuation, which emphasizes that part of the poem. Overall you mocked the idea of the plums in Williams' poem "This is Just to Say."

  3. I've thought of writing a parody on the plums as a way to enjoy mocking Williams' "This Is Just to Say" too, but hesitated. You've done a good job with incorporating plums into your parody.

I would like to know the idea behind your parody. As it may seem, I'm a bit struggling with Williams' poem on this one. More or less, it's just a random note rather than a poem to me. William's "This Is Just to Say" got the most out of me this time...I couldn't understand the message that he hid behind it. Nonetheless, you do know what is going in the poem that why you mock his writing in way that tells a bit about your personality and writing style.

Well done with your parody! I bet you had fun writing such a piece!
